Bitwise Asset Management has released its January 2025 Bitcoin Macro Investor Report, outlining the current challenges and long-term potential for Bitcoin. While the cryptocurrency market is facing macroeconomic resistance, the report notes that Bitcoin is supported by on-chain data and is well-positioned to outperform traditional assets in 2025 and beyond. In December 2024, Bitcoin faced obstacles from profit-taking, declining corporate exposure, and a tightening financial environment. The appreciation of the US dollar and policy adjustments by the Federal Reserve further weighed on the market. The Fed cut interest rates by 25 basis points last month, signaling that future rates could remain higher than previously anticipated. Global liquidity continues to decline, adding additional pressure as Bitcoin’s performance lags traditional markets like the S&P 500. On-chain indicators point to resilience, with increasing ETF activity, institutional treasury holdings, and retail demand creating a supply gap. Fundamental metrics such as declining exchange balances and rising network hashrate further illustrate the market’s strength. Long-term factors such as the Bitcoin halving and increasing adoption as a strategic reserve asset are expected to lead to a significant increase in prices. Bitwise reiterated its prediction that Bitcoin will reach $200,000 by the end of 2025 and potentially $1 million by 2029.
